Please be aware that from the 16th of July 2005 ALL producers of more than 200Kgs of hazardous waste in any 12 month period, will have to be registered with the Environment Agency, before you can dispose of it.

There are exemptions from this for certain categories, provided they produce less than 200Kgs in 12 months.  A list of exemptions can be found here:-

http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/waste/special/pdf/hwr-notifguidance.pdf

There is no exemption if you produce more than 200Kgs.

CRTs (monitors) are only classified as hazardous waste if they have their cases smashed, the screen smashed or have screen burn. If they can be repaired then we can sell them on for repair and rectification. However, we get paid just £1.70 per monitor and have to take them to Birmingham to get that! So you can understand that carrying just monitors around the country costs us money in staff time and fuel. So please do not be offended or surprised if we look to charge you £2.50 per monitor if it is only monitors you are asking us to collect.

Waste carriers, such as ourselves will not be permitted to collect from unregistered premises (on pain of death or a fine as they feel appropriate).

Registration is now possible with the Environment Agency.  You are urgently advised to read this:-

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/waste/1019330/1029396/?lang=_e

You will have to pay for this service.  Online registration costs £18. Telephone registration costs £23 and paper registration is £28.
