We are a commercial computer recycler based in Cambridge, England. We collect redundant I.T. equipment from businesses, schools / colleges, hospitals, and other establishments across East Anglia (Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and beyond). We are licensed Waste Carriers with the Environment Agency and are Paragraph 50 exempt from the W.E.E.E. Directive. We issue Duty of Care notices upon completion of every collection. We recycle anything that was a computer (regardless of age) or that would have been attached to a computer.

NEWS: CRT monitor disposal

Owing to the ever-diminishing value of these obsolete displays, and the costs of disposing of them properly within the letter and spirit of the W.E.E.E. regulatory framework, we now have no choice but to charge for the removal of CRT monitors. Our terms are laid out below. This charge will be applicable from 01/09/2009.  All requests for collections currently with us will be contacted prior to the collection being made to ensure that they are content to pay for this.

What do you collect?

CRT monitors (see above and below)

TFT screens

PCs & any component parts

Laptops / notebooks / PDA

Servers

Apple Macintosh / Sun

Printers / faxes

Scanners

Photocopiers

Keyboards / mice

Wires / cables / power supplies

Network switches / hubs / routers

UPS & batteries

What don’t you collect?

CRT Televisions

Photocopiers or UPS equipment that cannot be handled by 2 men

RGB / monochrome / terminal / smashed CRT monitors (see below)

Apple Macintosh machines with integral screens, such as iMacs, eMacs and all-in-one Performas such as 5200s. The old Macintosh Classics are also included in this list Regretably we do not know of anybody else who will recycle them either. If in doubt, call us first. We would prefer not to have to reject them once our driver is with you.

Do you charge a turn-out fee?

We aim to turn-out for free (and nearly always do) and to recover our fuel and wage costs through what we recycle. All collections within the Cambridge locality are done without a turn-out fee.

Unfortunately some collections are uneconomic due to a combination of distance and, more importantly, quantity. Often we can combine small jobs into a round-trip, but where this is not possible we have to charge a turn-out fee. We do not charge on a per unit basis, nor do we cherry-pick. Our fee is calculated using route-planning software on the basis of £1 (+ VAT) per mile for a one-way trip from our premises to yours.

Any turn-out fee is discussed and arranged before collection. Please do not assume you will be charged. Call 01223 473875 or email sales@cambridge-computer-recycling.co.uk

Do you charge for CRT monitor disposal?

If you are disposing of 5 or more CRT monitors, there will be a charge of £2+ VAT per screen. When our driver and your representative complete the Duty of Care notice, a note will be taken of the number of CRT monitors we have loaded. An invoice will then be sent to your company or institution, payable within 30 days by cheque, Paypal or direct bank transfer. Cash payment on the day of collection is also acceptable. A temporary receipt will be furnished at the time and a VAT invoice will follow by post.

To discuss and arrange fees before collection, call 01223 473875 or email sales@cambridge-computer-recycling.co.uk

Can I drop off my unwanted equipment?

Yes - we are open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday morning between 9 AM and 1 PM. Our workshop is at the rear of 542 Newmarket Road (look for the wind-turbine), accessed by way of Cutthroat Lane (a dirt track leading off Newmarket Road from the pedestrian crossing adjacent to Ditton Fields). 542 is 4 doors away from Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium on the same side of the road. Businesses are more than welcome to bring their equipment to us. Dropping off is free of charge, our yard manager will help you unload, and Duty of Care notices will be issued where required. All users dropping off 5 or more CRT monitors will be subject to the same charges for CRT monitors.

Can you physically destroy my hard-drives?

Every hard-drive we recycle is routinely either hand disassembled or fully wiped using software. For those seeking the additional reassurance of having their disks physically destroyed, we offer our shredding process at a cost of £5 (+ VAT) per drive up to 100 drives and £5 (including VAT) for quantities greater. This is carried out at our premises using our custom-made machine. For more information, please see our website:

What if my CRT monitors are beyond repair or reuse?

CRT monitors are classified as hazardous waste only if they have smashed cases, smashed screens or screen burn. To legally dispose of more than 200kg of hazardous waste in any 12 month period, you have to be registered with the Environment Agency as a producer of hazardous waste. Online registration costs £18, telephone registration £23, and paper registration £28. Waste carriers such as ourselves are not permitted to collect hazardous waste from unregistered premises.

If your monitors are beyond repair or reuse, they are hazardous waste and we will need to consign these from you. For this, there will be a charge of £20 + VAT, plus £15 per monitor disposal cost. If you are unsure, please contact us.
